There are only two games between ranked opponents this week. Last week, it seemed like every game was between top-25 teams. This week we have Ole Miss and Texas taking each other on, with one team needing the win significantly more than the other.
Ole Miss comes into the game ranked 7th in the nation with a 5-1 record and a 3-1 mark in SEC play. Their lone loss was to the Florida Gators, and they beat Missouri last week. If the Rebels lose this game, they’d likely drop in the rankings but remain in playoff contention.
Texas, on the other hand, would drop out of contention altogether if they lose the game. They wouldn’t even be a ranked team any longer. It would be the second straight year that Texas has had a disaster of a season. They have to win every game if they want to have a chance at the playoffs.

Houston vs Utah, Saturday, Oct 24, 2026 at 10:15 pm ET | Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT | FOX
The other matchup between ranked teams is between Houston and Utah. This is a Big 12 battle that features two of the best teams in the nation. A win will position either of these teams with a great shot at getting into the College Football Playoffs.
Houston is 6-1 for the season and 14th in the nation. Their lone loss this year was against Texas Tech, and the Cougars lost that game by just two points. Since that loss, the team has won four straight games. Now they have to go on the road and find a path to victory.
Utah is 6-0 for the season and currently ranked 10th. They haven’t had a ton of tough competition so far this season, so it is possible this will be the first test for them. Last week was their first close game, a road game against a bad Colorado team. They won, but it was a close battle, 27-24.
